With the advancing of time, the regeneration of old urban residential areas, as an important part of urban intending development, has become a public policy which involves the renaissance and sustainable development including social, economic, cultural and spatial segments. Facing the more comprehensive goals and contents, the main problem to be resolved currently is not of technique but of decision-making. In order to improve the rationality, the regeneration strategy should combine technique with values, which means to specify the connotative values of technique and harmonize the relations between them. In this dissertation the "dimension"is used to explore and establish the value criterion of decision-making, which helps to make clear the inevitable connection and influence of the relative factors in the regeneration of old urban residential areas. From the dimension of interests and process, the dissertation first analyses the goals of regeneration. Then taking the renewal course of the United States as an example, it compares the effects of three different regeneration methods, and offers method-choosing suggestions according to different regeneration goals. Summarizing all the above, the dissertation puts forward a constructive frame of the regeneration strategy of old urban residential areas. Moreover, a case study of the regeneration of Lihuangpi Neighborhood is made to prove the research in practice. The dissertation points out that an appropriate regeneration strategy of old urban residential area should be made through understanding and cooperating of different people, making rational choice of regeneration goals and methods that follows the principle of the social and economic development and the characteristic of the area itself.
