Sluice is one of important components of water conservancy infrastructure. Sluices play a significant role in such areas as flood control, drainage, irrigation, water supply, environment protection and etc.In our country, most of sluices were built in 1950s~1970s. Limited by the technical and economical conditions at that time, sluices were not reasonably designed and constructed. Additionally, damages of different degrees which would affect the normal operation, occurred in these sluices, influenced by some long-term natural actions such as air, load, freeze-thaw, water flow and contamination, and by other man-made factors. Therefore, it is very important to deal with safety monitoring and assessment of sluice, which can supply a kind of scientific rational evaluation means of easy application. In this thesis, a systematic and thorough study was given on safety monitoring technology and safety evaluation means for sluice.(a) Based on thoroughly investigation and study, the main form of major diseases in sluices was summarized and the principal cause of the diseases was obtained, so as to lay a foundation for the establishment of the safety monitoring and assessment for sluices.(b) According to the requirements of sluice safety monitoring and taking Taipu Sluice as an example, various technologies of safety inspection for sluices in our country were introduced concentratedly in this thesis.(c) According to the need of SL265-2001 i Stipulation for safety appraisal of sluice)) , in this thesis were analyzed the main factors affecting sluice safety, such as discharge capacity, energy dissipation and erosion protection, seepage stability of foundation, integral structural stability and bearing capacity of each structural element.(d) According to the corresponding criteria for hydraulic structures and referring to those for architecture, a complete assessment index system was established for sluice safety monitoring.(e) In this thesis, were introduced several safety assessment methods of sluices, such as expert assessment method, expert system method, standard contrast assessment method and system decision-marking method etc. Mixing AHP and gray assessment method, the composite assessment method was used to the safety assessment of Taipu Sluice, which shows that this method is of higher theoretical and practical value.
