This thesis introduces the background of IEC61850 standard series, its objectives and the series of the documents, analyzes its technical characteristics; introduces the communication model, the communication protocol of messages and the requirement of the performance of messages for the standard; decomposes and composes the common bay level automation devices into logical nodes according to the requirement of IEC61850 standard, studies the possibility to structure the general bay level automation equipment, concludes the structure of the equipment and the rules to divide models; designs a simple feeder protection equipment for experiments, models the logical node , models the data objects and models the services; designs the software for each models through using embedded system, explains the essentials in designing the software, and tests the transmission of the messages ,estimates the equipment system; views the application prospect of IEC61850 standard series at the last.
