With the rapid development of society and economy, the problems on lack of water resources and deterioration of water environment are increasingly appearing. Water resources becomes one of key factors in sustainable development of social economy and ecological environment. Water resources bearing capacity relates to economy, environment and other resources. The notion of water resources bearing capacity is given. On the basis of summarizing the existing research results at home and abroad, the interactive contacts among water resources,social and economic development and ecological environment as well as the major measures to enhance water resources carrying capacity are explored in this dissertation. While the multi-purpose evaluation model for studying on district water resources carrying capacity are also proposed, which provide a feasible method for research on carrying capacity of district water resources.A quantitative evaluation under different economic development planning was implemented using multi-objective calculation method in Suzhou city as a case, and forecasts the statuses of the water resource carrying capacity in 2030. At last, the satisfaction scheme on water resources sustainable development is obtained.
