Nowadays, the whole society stresses the coordination with development, nobody is willing to meet the conflict, but the conflict is a question that can not be avoided in the project management. Every project is accompanied by the germination and manifestation of construction conflict from the day emerging. Because the relevant subject units that involved are so many and their relations are so complicated, project operation often can initiate construction conflict by project goals, progress plan, project quality, engineering technology, project cost, resource allocation, executive procedure et al during the implementing course of building project. The rising of project technology and management complexity contributes to the increase of conflict quantity, and makes the conflict situation so intricate, as a result it will have a more serious impact on the work of project construction. The research of project conflict and its management obviously drops behind the demand of project practices at present. For this reason, it is necessary to research and discussion on the theory and methods of project conflict and its management.According to the construction nature, this paper analyzed the project conflict all-round on the basis of modern management theory, and carried out an overall analysis to characteristic, influence and causes of conflicts within the project. This paper found that the interdependence is the precondition and foundation of conflict's germination and manifestation, while the status unequal of every participant of the project, interest inconsistence, information asymmetry, unsmooth communication, lack of trust, unclear responsibility, project modification, etc. are the main reasons to germinate different types of conflict. On the base of more clearly understanding of the intra-project conflict, we carried on theoretical research of its management, and established the intra-project conflict management system. In the system, we put forward concrete indexes and set up the models for conflict diagnoses, and set up a fuzzy appraisal model, which is used for evaluating the conflict influence to the project. Besides that we found an analyze model for decision making on the conflict management. While analyzing the decision making issue of the conflict management, this paper has probed into the intra-project conflict management fundamental strategies and methods too. With the discussion on intra-project conflict and its management, we hope to offer some theory references for the administrative staff on project conflict management.
