| Historic District was formed during the long-term development, which it has a unique architectural style and rich cultural connotations. The loading of historical information, contains the local characteristics are recorded the city's valuable information.With the rapid economic development, Historic District was getting deteriorated. Hence, the urgent protections and updates needed. Domestic reform for the protection of historic neighborhoods still lack in-depth study, and also exit lots of mistakes. Therefore, the researches about the development the Historic District have a profound practical significance.Drum Tower as the center block in Datong Drum Tower is historical district. There is good preservation of heritage buildings and a large number of traditional dwellings. Today, with the accelerated process of urban modernization, Traditional building suffered serious damages, and also Historic District is facing a severe test.This paper is based on the development and evolution of Datong, and also did research on the space and overall environment of Drum Tower blocks. According to the theoretical and practical experience of China and foreign countries, we analyze the existing problems and their causes. With an objective views, we also analyze of the problems and misunderstandings in the neighborhoods. At same time, we combined the "organic renewal" theory and typological analysis method to design the Drum District of small-scale sub-regional planning and single building. This Paper aims to explain the more rational pattern of development for history District, and make a reference of renovation for the Drum Tower block and the similar historic site, which making historical memory block in the retained block neighborhood, while activation of the history of space, and also to promote industrial and economic regeneration of neighborhoods and achieve sustainable development.
