In this study, based on the breeding objectives including the character as high yield and quality, resistance and adaptability, the selection and breeding of a new maize variety Jiyan 501 were analyzed, using the elite maize germplasm and rational breeding procedure after analyzing the present situation of maize production in huangthuaihai region. Combined with the character of Jiyan 501, the related technology for breeding and cultivation developed, as well as the concerned questions about the maize bteeding. The main results are as following:1) The elite American hybridize PH03 were used as the baseic materials,and the inbreed line Huangzao 4 group as the tester, an elite inbreed line JPV were developed. A special test was conducted in F1 generation to guarantee the inbred lines developed close to Reid group. A small group was constructed to make the the elite genes recombined for the second time. Since the maize germplasm in china has solid complementary character, these germplasm can be incorporated together and named as Huanglv group, which show high heterosis with the one from American maize germplasm. Using the germplasm from two heterotic group from china maize germplasm, an elite maize inbreed line J9538 was developed with Pedigree method, which based on Chang7-2, imerged with Dan340. The line J9538 maintained the the chacters such as combination ability and adaptability from Chang7-2, while gained the high yield chacter from Dan340, which effectively imerged the two heterotic groups together and widen the germplasm base.. Based on the heterotic pattern Reid×Tangsipingtou, the new variety were developed using JPV as female and J9538 male line, respectively. The variety Jiyan 501 showed significant improvement in yield compared with the control Zhengda958 and has been registered at Henan province level in 2008 and hopefully to become the main varieties in this region.2)Jiyan501 performs with high and stable production. The average yield ranked as first and increased by 7.2% compared with Zhengdan958 (control) and by 6.5% compared with Zhengdan958 in 2006-2007 maize regional experiment of Henan Province. Its original starch content, original protein content, original fat content , lysine content and bulk specific gravity grain were 74.85%, 9.55%, 4.04%, 0.312% and 749g/l, respectively. Comprehensive quality of Jiyan501 is good. Jiyan501 shows high resistance to maize dwarf maosic virus (0%), moderately resistant to eye spot(five scale) and maize stalk rot (13.2%), However , the variety Jiyan501 were susceptible to north and sourth leaf bligh(seven scale) and maize earworm.3)Parents breeding of Jiyan 501: the planting density of female parent is about 90000/ hm2, male parent plant density is 75000/ hm2 in huanghuaihai summer-seeding regions; female parent is about 105000/ hm2, male parent plant appropriate density is 82500-90000/ hm2 in Northwest spring-seeding regions. Seed Production: the best Seed Production place is Northwest regions, female parent vs. male parent is 5:1, planting density is female parent 105000/ hm2,male parent 90000/ hm2. Sowing 70% seed of male parent firstly are suggested and then about 7 days later sowing the other 30% male parent and feamale parent on the same time.According to the experiment of the density and the ventilation to Jiyan501, the good planting density and the amount of properly using fertilization are 52500-67500/ hectare. The innovations of this article were: 1)This paper combined traditional breeding technology and modern breeding idea and polymerized temperate and tropical germplasm. Elite inbred lines such as JPV and J9538 were selected. 2) The Comprehensive character of Jiyan501 was prior to Zhengdan958. The summer maize heretics'patterns of huanghuihai region were explored successfully.
