| Background: Insulin resistance (IR) is the basic characteristic of type 2 diabetes mellitus. According to the modern medicine ,it is the insulin resistance that play the main role in these disease changing processes including type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, hyperlipoidemia, and hyperuricaemia ,and become the common foundation of these diseases. By analysing and discovering type 2 diabetes mellitus of Chinese medicine differentiation: we found that certain relevance was existenced between Chinese medicine phlegm syndrome and insulin resistance.purpose: To study the relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus of TCM phlegm syndrome and IR ,which provide a reference index for type 2 diabetes mellitus clinical differentiation, and provides a instruction for prevention and cure by Chinese medicine . Material and method: According to the WHO diagnosis standard of Diabetes Mellitus and Shi Re Kun Pi differentiation of Chinese medicine of clinical research about "Diabetes Mellitus" in "New Clinical Research Guideline Of Traditional Chinese Medicine Medicine " published in 2002 ,combined with diabetes clinical performance, type 2 Diabetes Mellitus phlegm syndrome of Chinese medicine was established. 60 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients were chosed as research objects,and were divided into TCM phlegm syndrome group and non- phlegm syndrome group, including 37 males, 23 females age from 40 - 76 years old. The average age is 55.7500±8.7887 years old. The average BMI index was 26.13±4.28, and the average course of illness was about 8.74±6.93 years; another 30 examples was selected as normal group in addition, including 16 males, 14 females; Age 40 - 72 years old, and the average is 56.1333±7.1184 year old..
