| Sport has become an important content in modern life; people can better understand international sports events through domestic sports information. Therefore, the translation of international sports coverage also becomes very important.According to Sina China Youth Daily, the first "living interpreters Survey Report" shows that:approximately 10000 sports professional translators need to be worked as interpreters during the Olympic Games in Beijing, but the interpreters who are good at the major just account for 1.3% in the total 300 thousands translators, sports translators are very scarce. Sports jargon is also very difficult to be found in the current foreign language dictionary. So some mistakes are inevitable which will influence the communication. The results are not very accurate even some translations are able to express some of the professional terminology. There is a clear difference between foreign language translators and sports translators. Due to an increase in foreign coaches, the communication between team members and coaches is also important. If the translator translates some technical terms such as "half-court press" as "half-court pressure", it would make players feel very confused. Therefore, the professional sports translation is important for the team, you can not properly communicate with others effectively without understanding of these terms.Sports English translation has been gradually affecting the sports exchanges, it not only has similarities with ordinary English translation, but also it has the unique characteristics. This paper preliminarily conducts some research on the sports translation, involving the areas of text interpretation, specialized terminology, sports knowledge, cultural background, methods, and techniques and so on. In order to achieve the purpose of promoting sports English Translation theory and practice, the specific characteristics of sport and translation methods will be described.
