The thesis summarizes the status quo of computer-aided translation (CAT) course at home and abroad and analyzes the existing problem of the course; the newly established professional degree, Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI), urges us to construct a novel translation teaching mode at the call of the era, so the thesis proposes an MTI-CAT teaching system that meets the demand of our society.As the competition is becoming increasingly fierce, those who are able to complete the work with high efficiency and high quality will have an advantage over others with a highly competitive position. Compared with the arduous, manual translation, computer-aided translation increases translation efficiency and quality, having its benefits in competition. With the extension of the need in translation market, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved to establish Master of Translation and Interpreting, aiming at training high-quality, professionally specialized practical talents. Relevant courses are designed to be practical. Therefore, the thesis puts forward the author's personal opinion against the teaching demand under the new environment.Chapter One gives a brief introduction of Computer-Aided Translation (CAT) and Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI), distinguishes between these two and the concept of Machine Translation which is often misunderstood by people, introduces the establishment of MTI and relevant study on CAT courses both in China and abroad, and states that setting up CAT courses in the developing trend in translation education. Chapter Two introduces the teaching of CAT and translation courses, including the definition of computer-aided translation in broad and narrow senses, corpus and translation practice and teaching, translation memory as the core of CAT and computer technology and translation project management, and then details the teaching of CAT and translation, sets forth the requirement on CAT in MTI syllabus, compares the CAT courses at home and abroad (European Master of Translation, Monterey Institute of International Studies, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and mainland China) and summarizes the role of CAT course in MTI. Chapter Three analyzes the problems of MTI-CAT teaching, such as translation courses detached from translation practice and service (e.g. ignorance of the need for practice from translation industry, the"armchair strategy"), existing in name only (e.g. faculty shortage, superficial cognition), textbooks and relevant studies lagging behind on the basis of the statistics towards the three prominent translation journals. Chapter Four puts forward the idea of constructing an MTI-CAT teaching system at the call of the era, analyzes the relationship between theory and practice as well as the demand of translation industry, such as the translation and localization of technical texts, lists the CAT teaching content including translation related information technology, gives prominence to the essential status of CAT in MTI, focuses on project analysis, management of data, translation process, terminology, translation memory and quality as well as localization, takes parallel corpus as an example to introduce the CAT study. Chapter Five designs the MTI-CAT teaching mode to meet the demand of society (including computer technology aided CAT teaching) and interactive full-view network teaching mode (e.g. software and hardware environment and general idea of the teaching mode), argues the development of CAT software of teaching management and translation memory (including teaching files management, translation memory and teaching resources) as well as the project-oriented overall teaching.It has become an important problem to train translation students nowadays to meet the demand of the translation industry through the establishment of computer-aided translation course and its position in Master of Translation and Interpreting as well as the construction and development of this newly born professional degree. The problem of faculty shortage will be solved and the study scheme is gradually improving. More and more elites, who can skillfully operate CAT applications and technology with proficient English skills, are stepping into society to exert themselves as brilliantly as possible. We have enough confidence to allege that translation industry will have a broad market with a bright future.
