| The Educational and Scientific Information channel of the Vietnamese Television Broadcasting Station, VTV2, was officially aired on January 1st 1990. After 20 years of development, with the primary intended viewers are pupils and students from across the country and the crucial goals of enhancing social education, and in according to the current globalization trend, VTV2 was promoting distance education programs, especially special subject teaching programs for higher education.The television Chinese language teaching programs, begun from the year 2000, had gained much supports from the managerial board of the Station. From start till now, VTV2 had continuously offered rich, diversified and of high quality Chinese language teaching programs such as "Happy Chinese", "Preparation for university entrance exams on Chinese", "Chinese phrases", and the most recently "Learning business Chinese the fun way"This research was based on the "Teaching Chinese as a Second language" and the "Modern education technique" theory for researching methods to combine the Chinese teaching contents with the visual and audible effects of teaching on television in order to have optimum results. The main methodology used was qualitative Case study method (which was often used in social science researches), from analyzing aspects of the specific case to making more general rules. Among many broadcasted Chinese language teaching programs, "Learning business Chinese the fun way" was chosen because it was both scientific and enjoyable. Just completed in December 2010, this program had had much impression from the audience.This research started from exposing the design, editing and broadcast stages of the "Learning business Chinese the fun way" program, in which focusing on the teaching methods and the design ideas behind the six parts of each program. Because the Station couldn't provide viewer statistic, the author had used surveys and Likert scale to obtain the behaviors of the audience. After analyzing the surveys, some short-comings of the program were initially detected.The essence of the research was about the effective of "Learning business Chinese the fun way". In order to find out effective methods to present Chinese teaching contents and to optimally combine the visual and audible aspects of teaching on television, this research was focused on two main aspects:the effectiveness of teaching contents and the effectiveness of presentation methods. When analyzing the document contents of the program, this research gave much attention to the functional, structural and cultural contents, pointed out pros and cons in the editing program scripts stage, then suggested further improvements for the future Chinese teaching programs on television. When analyzing the effectiveness of the television mechanism, the research was based on the theory of cognition in learning using multimedia communication, and sequentially analyzed the video, audio and subtitle of the program.Teaching Chinese on television had just begun in Vietnam. The question of how not to make Chinese teaching programs the "movable blackboard" was still hard to answer. Unfortunately in this area, Vietnamese materials were still scarce. The author hoped that this research would help the editors of the Chinese teaching programs on television in developing high quality programs, which then helped promoting teaching Chinese in Vietnam. |
