The design education in modern China has opened a new era. But contrasts with its' grand scale, the developing of the teaching methods in basic courses of the design education is far left behind, especially of the traditional teaching way in basic course of modeling, which has revealed great limits and insufficiencies. We are quite sure that the ability one obtained from this course should be an intellectual power which is comprehensive and specialized enough to enable the students of different fields of the design speciality to be capable of the future design activities. But we finally realized that the traditional teaching methods actually can not help the students reach such a goal. This thesis begins from analyzing the traditional basic course of modeling in the design education, and discussing on the relationship between the basic course of modeling and the modem design speciality. Then raising a doubt on the traditional teaching method which gave the fist place to the training of concrete images and realism; and putting forward my own point of view on each link of the basic course of modeling, besides putting the theory into the practice. In this thesis some of the students' works in the class have been quoted to support the feasibility of the argument.
