There is no such an apparent form like Chinese modal particles in English, the English-speaking students often avoid using modal particles to express the appropriate mood. They would like to use intonation rather than modal particles. It results in the Chinese they said sounded tough not gentle or native. Influenced by their mother language, the students have an ambiguity understanding about the connotation and denotation of the modal particles. This paper selected English speaking students as the object of research. It gives an error analysis on Chinese modal particles of English-speaking Chinese learners.Chapter One was a brief introduction about the the research background of Modern Chinese modal particles.Chapter Two took a specific look from the angle of the parallel development, meaning carried by intonation, allocation of the syntax , pragmatic function and the criterion of the definition of the modal particles. It lays a very good ground for the analysis in the following chapters.Chapter Three compared the difference of the Mood expressions between the English and Chinese . Chinese is more exterior while English is more interior, which possibly brings the misuse of the Chinese modal particles to the students.Chapter Four presented the theory basis of the error analysis. That is contrastive analysis and the theory on Inter-language.Chapter Five carried out the investigation of the error analysis on modal particles and concludes the 4types of the errors on the base of questionnaire and the analysis.Chapter Six analyzes the reason for the errors from the angles of the learning strategy, the transfer of the mother language and the teaching material.Chapter Seven made some suggestions for Chinese textbook design and classroom teaching, These suggestions are not only useful to the Chinese modal particle teaching for English-speaking students, but also helpful and referenced to students from other country.
