| For many years, Lu Xun has been studied as a great writer and thinker in China. His literary works have been discussed by many people in order to find out the profound meaning of them and the relationship between his literary works and the modernity in Chinese literature. However, few people have explored Lu Xun's translating career, especially the relationship between his poetics and his literary translation ideas.This thesis attempts to examine the detailed information of Lu Xun's poetics, Lu Xun's translation ideas and the relationship between them. The purpose of it is to find out the answers to the following questions: 1. What is Lu Xun's poetics? 2. What are Lu Xun's points of view on literary translating which are showed typically in their translation theories? 3. How did Lu Xun's poetics work on his literary translating ideas? 4. What are Lu Xun's achievements in literary translation which was influenced by his poetics?The thesis is divided into five parts. The first chapter is the introduction. In this part, the author reviews the research background and the research significance in translation studies. The author also explains the reason why the relationship between Lu Xun's poetics and his translation ideas is selected as the research subject. And then the research questions and methods are put forward.In chapter two, the author mainly discusses the factors in the making of Lu Xun's poetics. The author begins with Lu Xun's early life experiences and his disposition. And then the author offers the detailed information of Lu Xun's educational experiences and his learning. The third part of this chapter is Lu Xun's adult life and the social circumstance at his time. In this chapter the author tries to explore the related information in Lu Xun's personal life and his social life to his poetics. The author tries to explore Lu Xun's outlook of life and society in this part.In Chapter three, the author mainly discusses Lu Xun's view on literature, namely, his poetics, and the specific characteristics of his poetics are illustrated with detailed facts. Lu Xun's poetics actually had close relationship with the traditional Chinese poetics and was influenced by some foreign figures and their theories. Lu Xun's poetics shows a realistic attitude in the literary content and spirit since he believed that the social function should be the main characteristic of literature. At the same time, Lu Xun believed that the aesthetic aspect of literature is equally important in evaluating a literary work. Therefore, Lu Xun's poetics expresses Lu Xun's great concern about the people and reality, and his literary purpose is to improve the living conditions of people in social and political aspect in addition to the aesthetic pursuit in literature itself as a kind of art.In chapter four, the author mainly study Lu Xun's translation ideas. First, Lu Xun's translation works are mentioned, and then Lu Xun's translation theories are analyzed and the relationship between his translation theories and his poetics are discussed and illustrated. The author finally finds that Lu Xun's translation theories are quite influenced by his poetics not only in choosing the source texts but also in his translating methods such as his use of the foreignization translation strategy and his word-for-word translation skill. In the last part of this chapter, the author examines the factors of Lu Xun's selection of the source texts in his translation and finds that Lu Xun's translation practice is quite purposeful and his purposes are closely related to his poetics.In chapter five, the author draws the conclusion that Lu Xun's translation practice and his translation theories are quite influenced by his poetics which is aimed at improving the people's life and society. In effect, Lu Xun accomplished a lot in his translation and helped to bring about the renewal of the Chinese culture and society. The thesis proves that the Skopos theory can be applied to Lu Xun's case in his translation actions. |
