CAI is the inevitable development of modern science and technology. It has become very important teaching resources and direction of development for teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. This thesis compares the foreign students' learning effect of the Chinese Adverb "jiu" in the multimedia environment and those in the traditional type of instruction. This thesis also compares the foreign students' learning effect under different presentation of the multi-media teaching environment. In the multimedia environment, we can access to very rich teaching resources. In this research we selected the three most common kinds of media: text media, image and video media. This study is trying to explore the different value of using different multimedia technology to assist teaching of adverb "jiu" and some scientific and rational strategy for using multimedia in teaching.The between-group experimental results showed that the video media is the most effective media to assist teaching of Chinese adverb "jiu"; text media also have a certain value; while image almost has no value. The within-group experimental results showed that in the text media environment large fonts is better than the red text. In the image media environment image left text right is better than image above text down, image text presenting at the same time is better than presenting at different time. In the video media environment the presentation with subtitles is better than no subtitles presentation and intermittent play mode is better than continuous play mode.In short, Multimedia has a large space for the application on teaching. But whether the application of multimedia technology can be effective depends on teachers' choice and scientific way to use multimedia. Multimedia as a supplementary teaching method, different media has different roles. They are complementary and mutually little alternative. The effective use of Multimedia in teaching can only be established on reasonable choice and scientific use for different media resources.
