Passive sentences occupy an important position in teaching Chinese as a second language.Firstly,passive sentences play the important grammatical role which have Syntactic function and discourse function.They are special sentences whose predicates are verbs.Secondly,Passive sentences are very popular sentences in our daily life. The mastery of passive sentences effect the Everyday Communication of the learners whose aim is Chinese as a second language directly.Thirdly,Passive sentences are also very popular sentences in narrative woks,news and scholarly articles. Unfortunately,the condition of the mastery of passive sentences by the learners is found to be unsatisfactory.Along with the development of modern science, technology and network technique,CAI which be used as a teaching method has attracted increasing attention and.In addition,Richard E.Mayer in "MULTIMEDIA LEARNING" put forward a new theory.He proves the learner who under the multimedia environment of texts and pictures will be better than the ones who under the environment just with texts.He also finds that the multimedia environment of visual images does not have obvious advantage over the multimedia environment of texts and pictures.However,is it suitable that the theory of Richard E.Mayer applies to teaching Chinese as a second language,this is a question.My thesis is trying to explore the different values of using different multimedia technology to assist of passive sentences and to demonstrate the validity of the theory by Richard E.Mayer.I conducted teaching experiments of passive sentences under the multimedia environments,including the traditional environment,the multimedia environment of texts and pictures and the multimedia environment of visual images.After collection of data and statistical analysis,I found:compared to the teaching effect of passive sentences under the traditional environment,the result under the multimedia environments has obvious advantage,especially for the practical application of what they have learned,but for memorization of subject matter,the multimedia environment does not have obvious advantage over the traditional environment.I also found that in teaching passive sentences as a second language,the result of the multimedia environment of visual images does not have obvious advantage over the result of the multimedia environment of texts and pictures,and this proves the theory of Richard E.Mayer.
