The teaching of the directional complement has a special role in the field of TCFL(Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language)/TCSL(Teaching Chinese as a Second Language).On one hand,the directional complement is frequently used in modem Chinese,which makes it have great importance.On the other hand,the directional complement is a unique grammar point which can only be found in Chinese while hardly has an equivalent in other languages,which makes it difficult to learn.The indications of the directional complement can be divided into three categories:directional indication,result indication,and state indication.The last two are extended indications,which some directional complements have and some don't. However,the directional indication is a basic indication which every single directional complement certainly has.During the process of learning directional complement,the basic indication is something that learners will encounter first. Therefore,to research on the teaching of the basic indication of the directional complement is both important and necessary.There are quite a lot of researches about the directional complement so far,some of which are based on the language phenomenon itself and some of which are based on the students' acquisition,while few of which are based on the teaching.This thesis discusses about the effort of teaching the basic indication of directional complement with videos for the very first time with the effort of trying to give some help in teaching directional complement in the field of TCFL/TCSL.The research is based on an experiment.Four language learning classes of the same level have been chosen,divided into two groups,and separately given one lecture about the basic indication of the 22 directional complements including "lai", "qu","shang","xia","jin","chu","hui","guo","qi","shanglai","shangqu","xialai", "xiaqu","jinlai","jinqu","chulai","chuqu","huilai","huiqu","guolai","guoqu", "qilai".The two groups are separately been taught under the circumstances of multimedia teaching methods and traditional teaching methods,in which the multimedia methods are using videos.After the lecture,students are asked to finish a test and a questionnaire in order to evaluate the effect of teaching.And the software of SPSS 13.0 was used to analyze the data.The analyzing result shows that the effect of using videos to teach the basic indication of the directional complement has an extremely difference with the effect of using traditional methods to teach.The former one is better than the latter one. Moreover,students' feelings about using videos to teach are positive in most part. Teaching the basic indication of the directional complement with videos is viewed as not only interesting but also helpful,which makes the students more than happy to accept this method.The conclusion of this research is that using videos to teach the basic indication of the directional complement is a very effective way which can be spread into wider use.
