Objective: To investigate the current situation of nurses's job burnout, work-family conflict and work control; and further study the relationship between work-family conflict, work control and job burnout of nurses. Methods: In this study, 500 nurses , who worked for more than one year in different departments of ten hospitals in Changsha, were investigated by MBI-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS, translated by Xiaomei Li), work-family conflict scale(edited by Netemeyer in 1996), and scale of work control (edited by Thomas & Ganster in 1995).Results: Job burnout of nurses was serious. Mean score of Emotional Exhaustion is 24.5, belong to moderate job burnout. Mean scores of depersonalization is 8.94, belong to moderate job burnout. Mean score of personal accomplishment is 27. 67, belong to high job burnout. The extent of Job burnout of nurses was related with their age, seniority, marriage, professional title and work type. For example, Emotional Exhaustion in 26-35 years old nurse group was higher than that of 36-45 years old nurse group. Emotional Exhaustion in nurse group who worked for 6 to 10 years was significantly higher than that working for more than 16 years. Emotional Exhaustion in registered nurse group and long term-appointed nurse group was significantly higher than that in temporarily appointed group. In DP dimension detection, depersonalization extent in 25- year- old and younger nurse group and 26-35 years old nurse group was significantly higher than that in 36-45 years old nurse group. Depersonalization extent in 11-15 year- work group was significantly higher than that of nusres working more than 16 years. In PA dimension detection, sense of personal accomplishment in 25- year- old and younger nurse group was significantly lower than that of 36-year-old and older nurses. Sense of personal accomplishment among nurses working 5 years and below 5 years was significantly lower than that of nurses working for 16-20 years. Sense of personal accomplishment among marrid nurses was significantly lower than that of single nurses, nurse group lower than primary nurse group, nurse-in - charge group and co-chiefsuperintendent nurse group.Nurses have more serious work-family conflict . By using ANOVA and T test, we find out that work -to- family conflict was higher family-to-work conflict. The difference of conflict degree among nurses depended on nusres's ages, seniority and work types. we aslo found that sense of work control among nurses was related to nurses's ages and seniority. In addition, there is distinct correlation among work-family conflict, work control sense and job burnout. Conclusions: Job burnout in nurses was moderate and serious. Work-family conflict and work control sense was the importantfactor resulting in job burnout.
