With the advent of the Information Age and the development of the economic globalization,more and more Chinese enterprises compete in the overseas market, which directly gives birth to the C-E translation of corporate profiles(CPs) on webpage.CPs display the image of enterprises and offer an information platform for customers or clients,investors and job candidates.Thus CPs as well as their translation play an important role in business activities,which naturally triggers the development of the researches on corporate profile translation(CPT).However,most researches have been undertaken from the perspective of Functionalist Translation Theory or Skopos Theory,focusing on wording,translation skills or communicative effect.Few researchers focus on adaptive studies of the translating process of CPs from the pragmatic perspective.This thesis tends to revisit the CPT from a pragmatic perspective of Adaptation Theory in pragmatics.After the overview of the researches on CPT and the introduction of the Adaptation Theory and the Information Theory,the author makes a contrastive analysis between Chinese and English CPs as well as their information attributes,attempting to find out the similarities and differences between them.Then the author discusses the CPT on the basis of the Adaptation Theory and the Information Theory.The research reveals that in the translation process of CPs, translators should,adhering to the principle of"best effectiveness",adopt the strategies of"information prominence"and"economy and conciseness"to adapt to the information structure of target texts(TTs).Based on the results of the contrastive study,the thesis attempts to establish an adaptive model for CPT integrating the theory featuring information attributes and information values.In order to verify the effectiveness of the adaptive model,an empiric study is undertaken for illustration on the basis of case analysis together with a questionnaire for an objective demonstration to see if the version translated under the Adaptation Theory is more acceptable.
