This dissertation is a study of communicative language teaching (CLT) in teaching spoken English to higher vocational school students. By combining CLT and spoken English teaching in higher vocational education, this study investigates a new spoken English teaching pattern that helps cultivate students' language accuracy, fluency and communicative competence. It is expected that students will be able to learn in authentic situations in interactive classrooms, and the English they learn will be what they are going to use. I designed some questionnaires to carry out surveys among students and teachers. Using the relevant theories, this research reveals the strengths and weaknesses of CLT in practice. Based on the training and experiment in Xuancheng Technology and Vocational School for one term, it also finds that CLT has a clear and straightforward framework and is suitable for higher vocational school students.Due to the limitations of the research conditions and my personal ability, the study is still rudiment in many ways and, therefore, more and deeper research is needed.
