Mao Zedong advanced the socialist model of the modernization of agriculture in china which emphasizes on the nature of socialist of modernization. Many Mao Zedong's thoughts of agriculture are raluable. But because of the wrong guiding ideolgy and the neglection of the laws of economy ,Mao failed to seek out a road of agriculture' s modernization for china. After summing up the experiences, both successful and failed, in the development of agricalture before 1978, Deng Xiaoping put forward progressivly theories of the road of modernization with China's characteristics.Deng Xiaoping' s thoughts and theories of the modernization of agricultwre in China can be roughly devided into 4 parts. The first part is about the nature of agricalture , basing on which the criterion for judgement was put forward. The second part is about the goals and characteristics of the agriculture's modernization. The third part is about the basic principles which must be adhered to in the process of the modernization of socialist agriculture. Those principles include the principle of combining public ownership of means of production with common prosperity ,the principle of carrying out work by the laws of economy, the principle of respesting the practice and creativity of the farmers, and the principle of turning the planned economy structure to the market-oriented one. The last, part is about the basic means of the realization of the modernization of agriculture. To achreve the modernization of agricalture, we must strengthen agricalture as the foundation of the economy, must deal with properly the relation between the two great transformations of management in the reform and dvelopraent of the agriculture and the relation between the grain production and diversitying agriculture and the relation among the modernization industrialization and urbanization in the country side. We mast spead up the modernization of agriculture by making full use of scientific - and technological advances and vigorously developing the export-oriented agriculture, put more funds in the agriculture stick to the principle of comnlonprosperity, and strengthen the agricultural personel training, especially the training of agricultural high scientific and technological personel.In the Third thenary session of the 15th Central Committee, the strategy of agriculture century-crossing development under the guidance of Den Xiao ping' s theories was advanced.
