In the human resource development and management, performance appraisal is an important foundational work. Incentive is the core of HRM, appraisal and incentive are important methods to inspire the enthusiasm of managers and employees. Intermediate manager is the hard core in corporation, how to exert their enthusiasm and creativity lies on the scientific performance appraisal and proper incentive measure.First, the thesis summarizes the history and theories of performance appraisal, discusses its function in the HRM, points out the intermediate manager's key role in corporation and the necessity to appraise their performance. Second, under the ESP method, we expound concept system, indicator system, measure system and auxiliary system, which consisted in performance appraisal. A complete performance appraisal system has been established. Considering the reality of the power plant, new viewpoints are set forth. In the last chapter, some topics to be studied further are listed.The study is a reference to the power plant performance appraisal.
