The Cultural Revolution is a political movement mobilized and led by CPC in its independent exploration of socialist road which is suitable for China. This historical period characterized by the movement is a special period of great importance in the history of our party. During this period, whether the leadership of CPC still existed, what were the characteristics of its leadership, how to correctly recognize and evaluate its leadership, all these questions catch people's much attention. Actually they are already studied in some articles. Herein the author only intends to present her personal opinions so as to learn from experts. The Cultural Revolution is not a spontaneous mass movement but a political movement of consciousness from above to below. In order to guide the masses lu actively join in this grand and spectacular movement, the leaders adopted the manner of political mobilization, which is fit for the national conditions of China, to fully arouse the masses' initiative and stimulate the political enthusiasm hidden in them. This provided a widespread and far-reaching mass basis for the leadership of CPC. The manner of political mobilization includes three aspects: to mobilize the masses to participate in social activities by way of slogan-type political propagation; to set up models to guarantee the continuous development of the political mobilization; to attach importance to ideological education and carry out ideological work among all the people. These measures have certain limitations of course, but they indeed made quite a lot of the masses display enormous enthusiasm and join in the activities organized by our party. In the whole period of the cultural Revolution, the leaders always upheld the leadership of CPC and tried to exert macro-control over the revolution. The main measuresthey employed are as follows: to arrange step by step the development process of the revolution according to the actual situation; to make efforts to confine the revolution to appropriate limits; and to properly deal with the relationship between the revolution and other activities. It was in the course of the search for Chinese socialist road that the leaders started the Cultural Revolution. I he revolution was launched not for the sake of revolution, hut was intended to obey and serve the overall situation of socialist modernization. Therefore, the party central committee headed by Mao Zedong always paid attention to tighten up its leadership over the Cultural Revolution and resolutely opposed and curbed everything that endangered the foundation of socialism or CPC's position in power. With no doubt, the party organization during the cultural Revolution had once fallen into a state of paralysis, and numerous party members had discontinued their regular organization activities. But meanwhile we should realize that the state of paralysis and the discontinuity of organization activities did not last long. Furthermore, we must correctly understand the importance of party members ' having regular organization activities on the one hand and the significance of their giving conscious play to their positive role in unusual circumstances on the other hand. In reality, during the Cultural Revolution, most party members united consciously around the party Central committee, resisted and fought actively against the "Left" deviation and the counterrevolution group headed by Lin Biao and Jiang Qing. This contributed a lot to strengthening the leadership of our party and consolidating its position in power. At any time, we are able to judge whether the leadership of CPC is right or wrong by the criterion whether it improves the development of productive forces. The leaders started the Cultural Revolution with a good will, but the theories they adopted were improper, and thus subjectively obstacled the development of productive forces. Therefore, the leadership of CPC during the period of the Cultural Revolution is wrong from an overall aspect. However, it is correct in some respects. After undergoing hard course and gradua...
