This article is to perform a basic research on Integrated Product Development (IPD), which is the latest R&D management style that has been paid more and more attention in the high-tech industry in recent years. First, the basic principle and fundamental frameworks of IPD are demonstrated in brief. Secondly, series of research were conducted on IPD-related organization, decision-making audit, R&D process, key actions at each stage and the technical evaluation. Finally, limited resource is invested on the risk analysis within the process of introduction of IPD.Being a unique management methodology, which is widely used by enterprises, IPD has shown its magic ability in multi-integration by combining advanced conceptions such as customer-orientation, concurrent engineering, team management and pipe control, etc. It emphasizes the demand of market and can integrates all of the relevant phases including R&D, manufacturing and service into a single team based on the information integration. Then IPD enables the output to satisfy the external demands (from market) and internal demands (for manufacturing, test and maintenance) of firms to the utmost via the involvement of manufacturing, cost analysis and service in advance (so-called concurrent engineering) as well as the continuous effective communication among various specialty areas (so-called asynchronous development). Of course it leads to the amazing results: rapid transforming from concept to commodity, very good satisfaction of customers' demands. As a result, the firms can get the return on investment as soon as possible by the help of improved quality and effectiveness.IPD works well in balancing both technology and market orientation after being introducing into lots of well-known enterprises such as Huawei, Haier and IBM, etc. And those companies have tasted excellent fruits from their strong market-oriented R&D, the high efficiency of new productdevelopment and rapid response to market. So I will be pleased if the limited description hereafter can do something in conducting domestic companies to set up their own R&D system of IPD. What should be pointed out is that no management model could be treated as the standard and general, so do IPD. But every enterprise, which plans to apply IPD, must know that Rome was not built in a day. Systematic study and reasonable grafting are necessary at either the very start or the following stages. Then the satisfactory IPD process will be incubated gradually via the continuous reforming and innovation.
