The competitiveness of banking in China have great effect on the international competitiveness capacity of domestic banks under condition of the trend of opening of financial market. Internationally, there is a popularity of M&As between banks. Some banks have tended to be universal banking by gradually enhancing their scale and financial innovative capacity. Confronting the competitive challenge from foreign banks, it is increasingly important to improve international competitiveness of state- owned banks and sharing banks in China. Hence, it is necessary to formulate a set of scientific and applicable index system on appraisal of international competitiveness of banks. Then, we can find the major factor that affect the international competitiveness of banks by forementioned positive analysis. Consequently, strategy of improvement on international competitiveness of our banks may be turned up on the basis of former research.This thesis starts with international competitiveness theory by Michael Porter and appraisal method by international authorized institution which research in the field of competitiveness. Then, the thesis clarifies the definition of international competitiveness by reviewing and synthesizing study on it by both foreign and domestic researchers. Accordingly, on the basis of previous theory, allows for banks' high managing risks as a sort of special enterprise and their demand for high liquidity, we establish a set of scientific and applicable index system on the appraisal of banking international competitiveness by referring to that formulated by domestic researchers. Practically, according to forementioned index system, we select some influential banks in the world and several representative domestic state-owned banks and sharing banks for positive analysis. In detail, we give standard process to original data of each bank, then specify weight of each index by utilizing factor analysis, and at length, we rank the banks by their international competitiveness result from factor comprehensive grade. Our outcome shows that domestic banks rank lower than foreign ones by our index, while, domestic sharing banks see better competitive potential than state-owned ones.We conclude that scale, profitability and management are the main points that affect the international competitiveness of banks by our research.
