With the increasingly deepening of reform and opening to abroad, together with thedevelopment of socialist market economy, reforming the hi-tech enterprises on campus hasbecome an integral part of the reform of higher educational systems in China. This thesis,based on detailed analysis of a variety of issues relevant to the campus-based hi-techenterprises, points out that the formation and development of the enterprises is a historical andcircumstantial event. Emergence of the enterprises is a natural outcome of a university'sdiverse functionality and extension, representing its "third function". In the era of knowledgeeconomy, developing campus-based hi-tech enterprises is of significant importance infacilitating economic and social development in China. The thesis is divided into thefollowing five parts. Part 1 is an introduction that defines the concept of campus-based hi-tech enterprises. Itsummarizes the necessity and practical significance of campus-based hi-tech enterprises in theera of knowledge economy. Part 2 describes the developmental process of campus-based hi-tech enterprises. Thispart analyzes, from a historical point of view, the development of campus-based hi-techenterprises both within China and in abroad, and suggests that the enterprises is a naturaloutcome in a certain historical stage of higher education development. The industry originatesfrom the combination of educational and scientific research. And, it is a requirement for thesocial and economic development. Part 3 is about the accomplishments and functions of the campus-based hi-techenterprises in China. The industry has been developed for dozens of years. It has achievedmany exciting outcomes, and has advanced the development of the economy in our country.The campus-based hi-tech enterprises have been gradually becoming a catalyst in practicalapplication of the scientific achievements, and in serving as a base for the combination of thetheoretical education and practical training. Nowadays, universities have become a main forcein developing high-techs and their industrialization. Part 4 is about the problems currently faced by the campus-based hi-tech enterprises inChina. There exist both advantages and disadvantages in developing campus-based hi-techenterprises. And there are a large number of factors influencing and limiting the developmentof campus-based hi-tech enterprises. Part 5 discusses the measures need to be taken to accelerate the development ofcampus-based hi-tech enterprises. Aiming at the problems in these enterprises, and alsoreferring to the experience both at home and abroad, countermeasures are proposed from eightdifferent angles of perspective.
