Employing a self-designed survey, the author has investigated the current situation of self-knowledge of juvenile criminals and analyzed how the factors, such as the education background, parents, home place and characteristics, etc, correlate with self-knowledge. Based on the results of the investigation, the paper has brought forward the objective evidence and possible methods to improve the self-knowledge of juvenile criminals for remand home.Through questionnaires, group training and semi-structured interview, the research shows that (1) the average score of "self-esteem" is the lowest, while that of "aim of life" is the highest; (2) there is no obvious difference of self-knowledge between the juvenile criminals from countryside and those from cities. (3) the difference of self-knowledge is significant between the juvenile criminals of primary education and those of higher education. (4) the influence of parents on the self-knowledge of juvenile delinquents is insignificant. (5) the factor of "self-esteem" has an obvious relationship with the Neuroticism scale of EPQ; both "aim of life" and "understanding of human nature" have a significant correlation with the Psychoticism scale of EPQ; (6) Juvenile criminals ' score of EPQ is greatly higher than the normal group's. They have more unstable emotions, inhospitable feelings and impulsive actions; (7) group training is a good way to change juvenile delinquents; (8) group training of self-knowledge can strengthen their ability to self-restrain, and enable them to have a more harmonious relation with others.According to the above-mentioned results, the paper gives the following advices: (1) to improve juvenile criminals' degree of education, and foster their interests in study; (2) to facilitate their communication with families and enhance the ties between them;(3) to provide more group training conducted by professionals; (4) the officers and psychological consultants in remand home should pay more attention to their inside world and lead them to form positive values.
