A Study On Developing The Core Competence Of Manufacturing Enterprises And Its Demonstration

The core competence theory has become one of the most attractive topics in the study of strategy management and achieved great progress ever since Hamel and Prahalad published their famous paper on firm's core competence in Harvard Business Review in 1990. But few research is done in this field in China especially has little concern in industries. So this thesis makes an application of this theory in China's manufacturing industry.Manufacturing industry makes a large proportion in China's industry. But under the pressure of imported products, some enterprises begin to fail. WTO is another problem that bothers them. There's no way out if some special measures hasn't been taken. Therefore, after analyzing the status quo of manufacturing industry in China, this paper points out the challenges and also opportunities that they face. This paper also puts forward three ways on developing the core competence of manufacturing enterprises: high-tech alteration, developing enterprise information system and knowledge management. Some indexes are selected according to the actual situation and a fuzzy evaluation model is established to evaluate its core competence level. Finally, this paper briefly analyzes the core competence developing process of MianYang XinHua gas engine Co, LTD, which proves the paper's conclusion.This paper includes six parts. The first part is mainly concerned with how the problem is put forward, current studies on the topic and it's practical meaning .Thesecond part introduces the core competence theory in details. Part three briefly analyzes the status quo of manufacturing industry in China. Part four puts forward three ways on developing the core competence of manufacturing eterprises. Part five is a brief demonstration about MianYang XinHua gas engine Co, LTD. The last part shows the paper's conclusion.
