In the background of international economic integration and with the development of multi-national corporations, Chinese economy has gradually merged into the trend of economic globalization. As more and more international corporations are settling in the Chinese market, Chinese companies are confronted with an unprecedented competition. How to effectively enhance the competence and to survive in the heated competition, as a result, have become the hot topics for all Chinese enterprises. Facing such heated competition and challenge, corporations should attach great importance to the continuous improvement of core competence in order to sustain their competitive advantages. Plenty of facts have proved that corporate culture is a key factor to the success of a company and the sustainable development of a company is rooted in strong corporate culture. Under such new economic circumstances, the present paper, making references to Japanese and American corporate cultures, proposes that corporate culture is the core element of the core competence of corporation and corporate culture innovation is the foundation of the enhancement of core competence.The paper first discusses the theory of corporate culture and some characteristics of Japanese and American corporate cultures, and then systematically expatiates on the relationships among corporate culture, business performance and core competence. Based on these discussions, the paper proceeds to analyze the significant role played by corporate culture innovation in the promotion of core competence.Compared with Japanese and American corporate cultures, Chinese enterprises are still in the incipient stage of corporate culture formation. Since China is a developing country, the function of corporate culture as an advanced mode of cultural management cannot be properly performed.
