Due to the revision of Chinese language teaching goals suggested by the new curriculum reform, the teaching materials have been newly arranged. This gives birth to a new language teaching mode, which focuses on enhancing the leading role and initiative of students. This triggers some new thoughts of educators on the teaching contents and teaching methods in China:how to make sure whether the content of Chinese language teaching is the most suitable for students as far as the new curriculum standards are concerned? What kind of approach should be taken in order to stimulate students'interest in learning and at the same time enhance their leading role? Chinese reading teaching is reflected in the teaching contents and teaching methods. Course contents should be based on not only the teaching material and the requirements of curriculum objectives but also the actual situation of learning. The use of teaching methods is determined by the teaching contents and students'learning.Different teaching contents require different teaching methods Different students also need different ways of teaching in order to improve their language ability while reading. In fact, we can not define every teaching content and method of contemporary literature reading in detail. However, we can still summarize the principles which should be advocated during the teaching. This article focuses on the teaching contents and teaching methods which can be carried out during the reading teaching of contemporary literature in junior middle school.
