This research mainly studied 10 mental health education workers in the Secondary school who were divided into the excellent group and the average group according to the established Performance Criteria by the Literature search and Behavior Event Interview (BEI). To code blindly the interview information by using the Spencer Competence Dictionary which has been modified and the classified generalization, to descript and analyze the competence entries and definition with the purpose of obtaining the competency model based on what to provide the theoretical basis for the recruitment, training and performance evaluation of mental health education workers in the Secondary school, and to propose the education suggestion in order to boost professionalization progress of mental health education of the Secondary school. These following results were obtained from the study:1. There is no significant difference on length of BEI words between the excellent and the average group (12542±2225.2word, 11979±2344.2 word, t=0.389, p=0.707 ), and also no significant difference on length of BEI time (48.976±4.983minutes, 47.648±9.313minutes, t=0.281, p= 0.786).2. Overall Category Agreement (CA) was 0.749 with the maximum of 0.883 and overall coding reliability coefficient was 0.881 with the maximum of 0.898 which indicated higher consistency coefficient of two coders.3. Three competencies using coding standard of competency frequencies show significant correlation with the length of BEI(p﹤0.05, p﹤0.01). Two competencies using coding standard of competency maximum level of score show significant correlation with the length of BEI (p﹤0.05).One competency using coding standard of competency average level of score shows significant correlation with the length of BEI (p﹤0.05).4.There was significant difference in the ten competencies between mean level of competence shown by excellent versus average group(p﹤0.05): achievement desire, occupational preference, analytical thinking, professional expertise, effective classroom teaching, flexibility, counseling Service Orientation, team cooperation, influence and developing others. There were three elements in the competence model of mental health education workers in the Secondary school consisted of help and service, cognition and teaching, profession application, and twelve competencies which consisted of initiative, team cooperation, counseling Service Orientation, flexibility, interpersonal understanding, support winning, developing others, analytical thinking, occupational preference, effective classroom teaching, achievement desire, professional expertise.
