Since the reform of the new curriculum, there have been a growing number of empirical researches on the effective teaching of high school physical geography. However, systematic and theoretical studies on that are relatively rare. As a lot of problems were revealed after we observed the actual teaching of high school physical geography class, the work presented in this paper is concerned with the effective teaching strategies on high school physical geography in order to improve teaching efficiency, and to change the method of both teaching and learning. Methods of questionnaire survey and Classroom memoir organum are applied to analyze problems existing in high school physical geography classroom teaching, and corresponding teaching principles and main strategies are put forward in this paper.This paper is divided into seven parts:The preface part firstly introduces the background and significance of this study, then describes the outline of domestic and foreign studies about the effective teaching on high school physical geography, and points out their achievements and shortcomings, and finally gives a brief explanation on the research methods, steps and innovations.Based on some previous researches, the first part defines the effective teaching of high school physical geography and brings out it's theoretical basis.In the second part, knowledge of high school physical geography is classified into following categories:perceptual knowledge (Name knowledge, Distributing knowledge, Landscape knowledge, and Data knowledge) and rational knowledge (Conceptual knowledge, Characteristic knowledge, Rules knowledge, and Causes knowledge). All of the knowledge mentioned above is also introduced briefly in this part.In the third part, questionnaire survey is conducted to investigate the current status of high school physical geography teaching. Then we analyses the teaching behavior in videos with the help of "geographical teaching process analysis software of College of Urban and Environmental Science Central China Normal University". Finally, based on the statistical data, we find out the main problems existing in the physical geography teaching. To solve these problems, some corresponding teaching principles are suggested in the forth part. And according to the principles of instruction, the main teaching strategies are proposed. Landscape knowledge, Data knowledge, Conceptual knowledge, Rules knowledge are taken as examples.In the fifth part, combined with our teaching experience, an teaching design is carried out, which focuses on a classroom teaching, concerning "the Charactertic of the Earth Revolves Round itself and the Sun". And result turns out to be good in the end, which proves the strategies provided by this paper to be effective.Part sixth is the conclusion, which summarizes the results of the research and the main existing problems, and proposes some suggestions for further research on this topic.
