New Culture Movement has contributed to the development of the trend of science education, which, on the one hand, emphasizes"Science Education", and on the other, which stresses"Education Science". Under the influence of the trend, people begin to be full of enthusiasm about probe into the problem of scientificity in education, which gives rise to campaign for pedagogical experiment. As one of the foundation subjects in elementary and high school education, language and literature teaching experiment reveals the scope, depth of the research and unique power of influence. The language and literature teaching experiment of elementary and high schools in the period of the Republic of China runs through the entire history of the period, which experiences three periods of history. It is one side of lively and vivid educational history in modern China.The language and literature teaching experiment in the period of the Republic of China is mainly categorized in two major types: psychological experiment in language and literature teaching and pedagogy experiment. By means of testing children in the difference comparison of Chinese character pattern, basic vocabulary, writing, arrangement and reading interest problems reflected in the analysis, discussion and result of the experiment, the researchers finally have gained scientific achievement of Chinese character and reading problems of literature and language in various degree. In the literature and language pedagogy experiments, based on the specific problems of teaching material, vocabulary, handwriting, reading, composition and the proposal of research hypotheses, the researchers have carried out the variable control experiments combined with the actual teaching methods. Among them, the most typical cases are the experimental research concerning children's learning ability of writings made by Ai Wei, the contrast experiment between Dalton Plan and non-Dalton Plan by Mu Jibo and the experiment of Chinese Literature General Knowledge in high school By Liao Shicheng.Various literature and language teaching experiments in middle and primary schools have conduced to making the language education development get onto the track of the scientific development, and promoted the formulation and revision of the language syllabus. Meanwhile, in terms of the spread of scientific teaching in the middle and primary schools, they have accelerated the scientific reform progress of Chinese textbooks and urged teachers to set up the scientific opinions on educational in the educational practice and hold a good degree between humanity and scientificity in the practical education activities.
