This paper consists of two parts including the theoretic and pragmatic researches on the theory of career maturity. Firstly, the paper summarizes the career maturity, including the transforming of the theory of career development to the theory of career maturity, its definition and theory model. It also inquires the historical and present research of the career maturity theory, from the aspects of measurement study, difference study and career-related behaviour study. Taking university students as subjects, the paper revises the Career Maturity Inventory (Crites, 1978) and discusses the students' characteristics of career maturity with the revised Career Maturity Inventory in the second part. The results indicate:1. The split-half reliability and the homogeneity reliability of the revised Career Maturity Inventory-Attitude Scale are comparatively ideal. But the construct validity is not so good as what we expected.2. The split-half reliability, the homogeneity reliability and the construct validityof the revised Career Maturity Inventory-Competence Test are comparatively ideal.3. Significant gender differences among male and female students regarding their career maturity competence are found. The girls are better than the boys.4. Significant age differences among students regarding their career maturity are found. Along with the increase of the age, the career maturity of students rises firstly, then drops.
