Adopting methods of investigation, documental data, mathematical statistics, logical analysis and an teaching experiment, which was made on 60 grade -I middle -school students from Fuzhou No.9 Middle school. This essay analyzes the status quo of the track-and-field teaching in Fujian's middle schools, and points out the teaching guidelines, teaching content, teaching method as well as studying and evaluating the developing trend on the background of new course standard.The study indicates that although it has been declared, many a PE teacher in middle schools, especially those under country level, understands nothing or little of the new course standard. At present, the track-and-field teaching in most of the province's middle schools is still fettered to traditional ways, that is the main guideline remains "constitution-oriented" or "skill-oriented", the teaching content contest-based the teaching method dull ,and the study and evaluation rigid. The author puts forth that ,on the background of new course standard, the role of track-and-field teaching in middle schools stands unshakeable, that the teaching guideline should be directed to "health first", and the teaching method "student-centered", and that a life-long sport concept should be formed to gear the track-and-field teaching into the national teaching reform.The purpose of the study aims to provide some reference to middle-school track-and-field teaching on the background of new course standard.
