Under the background of RE. course reform of taking "health first" as leading thought, we should carry on trial studying about how to inherit and develop the quintessence of the content in the traditional track and field teaching in middle school, how to excavate fully the peculiar function and value of track and field sports, and how to develop the content system of track and field teaching in middle school which are suitable to the need of students' healthy growth and better completion of physical course goal. This research points to the content in track and field teaching of physical course in middle school. It sets excellent gymnasts of Jiangsu Province middle schools and some students in Changzhou as studying samples, using ways of documents and materials, ways of questionnaire and data statistics to study current teaching content of middle school track and field in an all-round way. On the basis of designing scientific and reasonable questionnaire and reasonable and reliable studying samples, we should count and analyze the results of investigation. From the analysis, we find that current Chinese teaching of track and field can hardly attract students' learning interest, affect positively students' physical and psychological well-being growth, reflect the consistency that educational thought of facing all students and students' track and field cognition and the learning ability, or serve in life, work and learn in future. On this basis, we study more about teaching content in the traditional track and field of middle school to go on historical analysis and contrastive analysis. It is found that there are many problems on the choices of traditional teaching content in track and field. For instance, there is dense sports color on the choice of content, which is far from the demand of epoch; it can't promote students' physical and psychological well-being in an all-round way; it disjoints with the concept of lifetime sports, and so on. Aiming at the above-mentioned problems, using analyzable principle of the combination of characterization and quantification, we manage to convince that the traditional content of track and field teaching in middle school needs to be reform from three aspects of needs in carrying on course standard of Physical Education and Health in middle school, fully embodying of the health value in track and field and development of society. Taking diversity of athleticism function and value and foundation of physical teaching content in middle school as the theoretical basis, we provide relative principle about reforming and developing content of track and field teaching in middle schools' physical education. We also offer some relative tactics on basic frame and classification of content of track and field teaching in middle school, the concretization of track and field teaching objective and the operation of the track and field teaching content.
