This paper examines the burning issue of the society's need of applied technical personnel. It discusses the starting, changing and developing of the key skills in secondary vocational education of the whole world. Different from previous research, this paper wants to emphasize the importance of developing students' key skills and study effective methods to key skills training. In what follows, we revise the method of English key skills training to investigate our students' key skills.There are eight parts in this paper. We start witb a brief introduction to the background and the reasons why we talk about this question, and the signification of key skills training. Then we propose teaching requirements for key skills cultivating, and testify it with constructionism theory. Through investigation we find that the level of all students' key skills is low, which is related; to sex, marks etc. Based on this findings, we may conclude that (1) the key skills of men students are higher than women students, (2) the; higher marks they earn in general knowledge course and specialized course, the higher levels they get key skills, and (3) the level of key skills is difference in vocational schools. So we propose (1) pay more attention to women students in vocational education, (2) strength general courses, and (3) on the basis of constructionism theory, improve students' key skills in all kinds of vocational schools. We end the study with teaching patterns and matters needing attention.
