The current physics teaching practice in senior high schools lays much more emphasis on knowledge delivery to the students. This teaching strategy is helpful for the students to master the necessary knowledge in physics and comprehend the whole knowledge system, but this is a confined strategy, tending to weaken the connection between what they learn in physics and their life and social practice. This method employs too much mechanical training, while the interest of the students is often neglected and the students' initiative in study is oppressed, so it is an obstacle for nurturing students' ability in innovation and practice. The New Standards for Curricula issued in April 2003 advocates such studying stategies like independent study, cooperative study, and explorative study, etc. In the actual physics teaching practice in senior high schools we should decide what kind of teaching strategy to be adopted according to the characteristic of knowledge, the characteristics of students, the reality of the society, and the present conditions in our lives, etc. In trying to stimulate the change in students studying methods when learning physics, some educators are experimenting with many more new studying strategies. In these efforts, what principles must we follow, and what problems should we try to avoid? Studying strategy has a vital role in deciding the result of study. In order to let students form a basic system of physics knowledge, develop their initiatives, form a lifelong interest and ability to study physics, and lead them to an active role in the society, we must innovate our present studying strategy in learning physics, and constantly solve new problems emerging from this innovation. This research explores the meaning of studying strategy, records the actual condition of the students' studying strategies in Dongfang Experimental High School through questionnaire, discusses the effective methods and necessary cautions in changing students' study strategies. This research aims to help stimulate students' interest and passion in learning physics, and at the same time to nurture their ability in independent study.
