The thesis reveals the successful experiences of adult education in Britain and the scantiness of which in China by comparing adult education in China with that in Britain. The thesis also describes the present conditions of the adult education in China on the base of contrast and analysis and gives some constructive advices to our adult education. The comparison focuses on the development history, instruction thought and strategy, the control pattern, courses, as well as students and teachers in adult education in Britain and China. The author finds out that there are many problems in Chinese adult education, such as the hysteresis of our education innovation, the monotonous control pattern, the failure of both educational fund and professional teachers and so on. The thesis points out that all these problems originate from the outdated view on adult education in China. At the same time, the outdated view results in many other problems, in which the lack of financial support is a serious one, and then the defection of professional teachers and the increase of personal education cost.Through comparison, the thesis puts forward suggestions to resolve these problems: first, we should change the instruction thought and draw up strategies and goals that are beneficial to transform adult education to life-long education, and finally to construct a learning society; second, financial problems should be resolvedin more ways to develop adult education. The government should invest more in adult education, but social communities and organizations, esp., business and industries should participate in adult education, which is an efficient way to get more money; Finally, adult universities should enlarge the scope to employ more teachers, as well as recruit more students, so as to change the un-symmetry situation of information between universities and the potential students, aiming to enlarge the students sources.
