It has been over 100 years since China developed its art education, however, the art education in the rural areas started 20 years ago. The art education in the rural areas, though made some progress, is only at starting point in the view of both theory and practice.This paper, based on the research into the development of art education in Zhejiang rural areas and relative theories, made an analysis of the problems concerning art education in rural areas, and put forward some solutions. The paper consists three parts: the status quo of the art education in Zhejiang rural areas, the problems in the art education, and some suggestions concerning the art education in the rural areas.The key point of this paper is that the reform must make in the art education in the rural areas, for the art education in China rural areas, in terms of its form as well as its content, is far way from the actuality of the countryside, and cannot effectively play its role. A feasible way to solve the problem is to make full use of the rich natural resources reflecting local conditions and suited to local needs as teaching materials for art education, and thus develop unique art curriculum imbued with local color. This paper also made some suggestion for art teachers working in the rural areas.
