Language is a mirror, and the catchwords are the most direct and concentrative reflection of the temporal society. The flux of social history and the change of the life are all represented by people's language, especially by the catchwords.The catchwords relate to the important events and phenomena of the modern society and people's daily life at all levels such as: the meaning of the life, the life style, love, friendship, employment, consumption, fad and so on. They have strong temporal spirit and extensive transmissibility and contain abundant social-cultural meaning. They have been a hotspot that arouses people's attention in the language phenomena. The produce and the development of the catchwords have closely relationship with social life. The catchwords can spread extensively because the social culture that they bring particularly reflect people's moral conception, cultural development, aesthetic sentiment and the attitude or the bias of the society in certain period. The catchwords are one kind of cultural phenomena as the same time, so the produce and development of them don't only have their specifically social and cultural condition, but also restricted by mental condition.The research of this thesis starts with the close relationship of the catchwords and the social culture and psychology. The first part expounds the definitions, characteristics, sources of social and cultural background and psychological basis of the catchwords. Then, the important part 2 studies the social psychology of China in 30 years from the community the research of the social-linguistics, the psychological-linguistics and the cultural-linguistics. It tries to reveal a track of the change of the cultural psychology of China by the catchwords of 30 years in China. The third part of the thesis shows the relationship and the difference between the culture of this two countries by the way of studying the catchwords of China and Japan in this century.
