The thesis of school-based curriculum development (SBCD) is originated from the main western developed countries in 1960s and 1970s. Because of the malpractice of center-based curriculum development (CBCD), SBCD is demanded to actualize democracy in curriculum decision. For a long time, the designing of the curriculum of geography in middle schools has been dominated by the nation. With the development of society, economy and culture, the deficiency in it has been exposed. Therefore, one of the major tasks of elementary educational reform is to gradually change the over-centralized national curriculum system to a more democratic one, with local and school-based curriculum as an indispensable supplement to the national curriculum planning, it is high time for us to break free from the single system and develop the school-based curriculum. Recently, with the publication of the third-class curriculum management policy in our country , SBCD has already, been a problem confronting schools and teachers. The development of school-based curriculum is the antipode to the development of national curriculum. New ideas such as the development of students, equal opportunity for education, all-staff participation and strategic integrity are advocated in the school-based curriculum which plays an important role in the development of teachers' individual characters, characteristics of a school as well as the development of teachers' careers and in the cultivation of all-round personnel. The development of geographic school-based curriculum agrees with the standard of new geography lesson. This thesis analyzes the conception of SBCD, the historical track of SBCD, the way, the purpose and the value of SBCD as well as its theoretical foundation. Then this thesis mainly talks about the process of SBCD based on geography subject in a theoretical and practical way and then puts forward a development mode just for reference, that is, establishing an organization, analyzing the present situation, working out an object, drawing up a plan, experimenting on and implementing courses and at last evaluating and revising courses .At last in this essay, the development and carrying out of the school-based curriculum in our school will be presented through two cases, and some problems and solutions discovered in the course of teaching will be discussed.
