Following the strategy of revitalizing China through science and education, inorder to improve our comprehensive national strength and education, cultivatequalified socialist citizens, primary courses reform was held in 42 experimental areasof the nation in September 2001, while as the second group of the experimental areas,Jinan operated the reform in September 2002. Up to July 2004, the reform in biologycourses had run one round. This research aims to sum up the development of thebiology courses reform in prior time in Jinan, outline the situation, popularize theexperience learned from the reform, and at the same time discuss problems appeared.With the help of the statistical software SPSS, after investigating in thedifficulties countered in the reform, training of students' ability, opinions of thecourses and the reflection towards the reform from the parents, the author gets theaccomplishment and problems with the corresponding solutions. The article can beseparated into six parts—preface, investigating methods, analysis of the result,accomplishment problems, suggestion and countermeasures. The first part, preface, puts forward the research task based on the analysis ofthe background and situation international and domestic of the courses reform and thenecessity of the biology course reform. The second part, investigating methods,includes three pieces of questionaire—for teachers, for students, for parents. The mainprocedure is to hand out the papers and hold informal discussions with teaching andresearch staff, teachers, students. The third part, analysis of investigating result,analyzes the answers to the questions on the papers one by one. The fourth and fifthparts, analyze the results, sum up the accomplishment and point out the problems. Theresearch in Jinan shows that the two-year' reform in biology courses greatly improvesthe courses' arrangement, content and evaluation, changes the mind of teaching,increases students' studying interest ability and their science knowledge as well asimproves teachers' quality. It is a great success. Courses reform provides the space forteachers and students to develop freely. At the same time, it requires the schoolmanagement to reach a higher level. Problems are appeared accompanying the reform,including the incomplete evaluation system, not well-knit basic knowledge, heavyworkload for teachers, few chances for teaching staff to carry on further study. Thesixth part gives corresponding suggestion and methods to solve the problems. In orderto get more success, the following aspects need more attention: to consummate themeteyard, to establish the developable rating system, to improve teachers' researchability, to tamp students' basic knowledge as well as to provide more opportunities forteachers to carry on further study.
