As we known, a new round of curriculum reform is going on the experimental stage inGuangdong, Shandong, Hainan and Ningxia provinces. However, lots of problems from it arewaiting for us to discuss and solve. In the Curriculum Standard for Senior High Physics, thecontents are presented in the way of modules, which give more flexibility and choices forcarrying out the curriculums, supply more chances for the students, and bring moreopportunities for development and challenges to schools and teachers. Then how to makegood use of the current teaching resources, and guide the students to make suitable plans forcurriculum studies is one of the most important items in this new curriculum reform. As a physics teacher in Hainan Overseas Chinese High School, I actively explore theguidance for physics elective courses both in theory and practice. This research aims to helpthe students learn to elect courses sensibly, so that they can go on learning elective coursesthoroughly after learning optional courses, and finally accomplish the learning targets insenior physics studies. In the theoretic research, the writer explore mainly in two aspects ----the theories ofconstructive and individual studies. It shows that the optional system is better for the studentsto construct their own studies, use situational approach and the transfer knowledge. It alsoshows the cognitive differences because of individual characters. Thus, teachers' teachingshould have more adaptability, differentiation and acceptation. In practical research, the writer analyses the basic steps in detail : (1) having theconditions for the guidance;(2) knowing the basic structure of senior physics curriculums;(3)setting up the system for the guidance;(4) carrying out researches on school-basedcurriculums, richen the physical resources;(5) designing the guidebook for elective courses, guaranteeing it to go on successfully. Meanwhile, we put forward the process as what tochoose ----how to choose ----how to arrange the time ----how to assess ----how to givecredits and so on. About this we give some examples found in practice, which can be used asreference.
