Private higher education of our nation is in the ascendant, and becomes the key part inhigher education of our nation at present. The private universities with their development,however, are facing featurelessness, unclear division of work and atrophic development. Oneof the primary reasons is that private universities are short of reasonable orientation.Especially with our higher education's entering the popularization stage, what course tofollow for private universities is not only related to the exertion of their own functions andsustainable development, but related to whether the resources of higher education aredistributed impartially and reasonably by our nation.In the vast extensions, private universities may be oriented in many views such as object,types of running schools, levels, specialties, service orientations, regions and characteristics.However, facing a variety of choices, many private universities are at loose ends. They takeconservative measures and traditional orientation of public universities. That is to say they areevaluated by the scale, the subject potency and research strength. They manage to make use ofall kinds of resources and build up a model with all advantages. Under the background ofeconomic globalization and zone, political democratization and despotism, and multi-culturesand nation, the orientation logic is suffered from impact. Therefore, the orientation of privateuniversities should take the functions of higher universities, and be leveled according to theteaching, research and service of higher universities.With the view of the microcosmic orientation of private universities in the system ofhigher education, this thesis describes and analyzes the existed problems on energy and levelorientation of private universities, therefore, explores the deep factors that influence theorientation, such as market factor, government factor, cultural and regional factor in the outerpart, and leading system, energy of running schools, running system and inter-scholasticrelations. On the base of them, we bring forward both the basic constitutions and suggestionsof the energy and level orientation of private universities.
