The teaching of oral communication started in ancient times, and became boomed during Warring States Period. However, under the feudal monarch system, as the era with a hundred schools of thought contending came to an end, particularly when the imperial examinations were adopted, it gradually became a tradition to focus on reading and writing but to despise listening and speaking in the practice of Chinese teaching. From the mid-19th century to the May 4th Movement, China began to communicate more frequently with the outside world, many education thoughts and approaches were introduced into China. From then on, some educationists began to pay attention to the capability training of oral communication. In modern times, interpersonal relationship and corporation are getting more and more strengthened, much importance is gradually attached to oral communication of mother tongue all over the world. In our country, the contents and requirements of oral Chinese communication have been included in the syllabuses and curriculums of elementary and high schools. However, the practice of oral Chinese teaching is not satisfying, particularly at the period of senior high school during which teachers and students are faced with the pressure of National Entrance Examination. Based on the analysis of the current situation and the retrospect of the past as well as the careful study of other countries' achievements in the teaching of oral communication, the thesis attempts to reinforce the importance of oral Chinese teaching in senior high schools. Meanwhile, after integrating the views of many pioneering experts andteachers along with his own teaching experience, the author probes into and put forward some proposals for the training strategies of oral Chinese communication in this thesis.
