Our eighth national curriculum reform, which matches up with the society, meetsthe demands of our political and economic developments. The new curriculum reformstarted in Shandong, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Hainan province since 2004 has steppedinto its second year. We have made great progress in such aspects as curriculumfunction, structure, content, conduct, evaluation. However, it remains a questionwhether we have fully met the required standard. How deep is the gap between theideal and reality? Why was the gap caused? How to measure and fill it up? There is nodoubt that we can understand and evaluate the reform better through a survey, whichhas a theoretical as well as practical significance. We have studied the current state of the chemistry curriculum reform in four relevanthigh schools of Jinan since 2004 through questionnaires ranging from the using ofnew text books and teaching resources to teachers' teaching skills training and havegotten a picture of chemistry teaching, reflecting our gain and loss. Here is the results we got from the survey:1.The textbook used in Jinan is published by Shandong scientific press, whichrelates to our everyday life and shows the trend of modern scientific and technicaldevelopment. It also helps the students learn a picture of scientific history. There aremore illustrations and experiments as well as learning strategies instruction andactivities. Yet, there are shortcomings, for example, the knowledge system is not veryclear, especially the required course. Secondly, the link between the required andelective sections is a little bit abrupt. Third, the elective section is too difficult. Four, the new textbooks contain more modules than before besides its high price.2,The survey indicated that high schools in Jinan made good use of thecurriculum resources, but everything has two sides.First, it is impossible for the students to choose freely under the circumstance of thesame textbooks, process and examinations.Second, the students' favorite activities, chemical exploration and research were notcarried out. Third , the new curriculum reform requires high quality teachingresources and laboratory.3, teaching itself should be improved.First, there should be more communication and cooperation between teachers so thatall the teaching goals can be well achieved, which refers to the combinations ofknowledge and skills, process and methods as well as sensibility and values. Theassignments should be given properly.Second, we should accelerate the usage of information technology in our teachingactivities, because the teachers who adopted multimedia now and then belong to theminority.Third, most students requires more opportunity be given to conduct moreexperiments. The new curriculum exerts more pressure on teachers so the teachers' skill trainingshould be strengthened. All in all, the new curriculum reform has achieved its goal in a whole, however, whether it meets the demand of college recruiting reform need our further work afterthe national college acceptance examinations. It is optimistically believed that thepotential of the new curriculum reform is bright.
