In the autumn of 2007, Shaanxi Province fully entered the experimental stage of new curriculum reform for senior high schools, whereas the implementation of chemistry selective curriculum modules in senior high school is a prominent difficulty, which influences the deepening new curriculum reform in senior high schools. Therefore, the good understanding and disposal of the problems in the construction and development of chemistry selective curriculum will promote the overall progress of provincial chemistry new curriculum reform. These problems include:To what extent is the teaching of chemistry selective curriculum in senior high schools according with the requirements of the new curriculum? What difficulties and pressures do the teachers meet in the teaching of chemistry selective modules? Could the schools satisfy the basic conditions of construction and development of chemistry selective curriculum under the new curriculum? In senior high schools, what kinds of problems does the chemistry selective curriculum encounter? However, the accurate answers only could be obtained through the investigation and research on the status quo of chemistry selective curriculum modules in senior high schools, and then, the scientific evaluation for overall performance of chemistry new curriculum reform can be carried out on the basis of this. Under this background, the subject focuses on a variety of factors in the implementation of chemistry selective curriculum module for Shaanxi senior high schools.Through questionnaires, this paper makes random sample for the curriculum provision and implementation of four general chemistry selective modules in Shaanxi Province. In order to ensure the universality, representativeness and credibility, we take full account of the respondents' structure, schools' property as well as the regional differences of Shaanxi's economy and social development, so we select 43 schools, which are full of representative. The content in the investigation include:For the chemical selective curriculum after the new curriculum reform, the attitude from teachers and students, selective curriculum provision, the usage of modular teaching materials, development and utilization of curriculum resources, teaching philosophy and teaching behavior, evaluation system, effect of new curriculum reform, teacher training, and teachers' response to the new curriculum reform. Therefore, we get the following conclusions:(1) The provisions for chemistry selective curriculum are basically reasonable, while the hours are relatively adequate and ways of implementation are various.(2) At present, except that Yan'an City chooses the teaching materials from Jiangsu Education Press, Weinan City and Yulin City choose the teaching materials from Shandong Education Press, other cities in Shaanxi Province all use the teaching materials from People's Education Press. The satisfaction for teaching materials of selective curriculum modules is relatively high.(3) There is the coexistence of a variety of teaching methods, but the most common ways are still traditional lecture method and discussion method. Whether the inquiry method shall be adopted in teaching method? Teachers take rational attitude to analyze according to the characteristics of selective modules.(4) The teachers' professional titles are more reasonable, but different schools have different basic conditions, so there are also problems, such as great distance among teachers' professional competences and teaching levels. The job training shall be enhanced for teachers urgently.(5) From the scale of schools, the schools, whose sizes are large and conditions are excellent, are provided with adequate teachers, good training for teachers as well as high quality for selective curriculum. However, this puts forwards more serious challenges for the schools whose sizes are small and conditions are poor.(6) For the construction of curriculum resources, the less capital, less energy and less emotion result in the slow development and poor utilization.(7) The curriculum management system is not perfect. The evaluation method is single and its operation is poor. Therefore, the curriculum management and evaluation needs to be enhanced.(8) For the moment, other main problems from Shaanxi schools are:limited time and ability of teachers as well as laggard hardware facilities in schools.To sum up, since the implementation of new curriculum reform, it realizes its anticipatory goal to a great extent; however, in new curriculum reform, whether the reform of higher education admission system achieves its goal or not? We shall make evaluations after the college entrance examination this year. With the continuous deepening and gradual improvement of the new curriculum, we believe the implementation of new curriculum reform will be more and more prosperous, whereas the goal of curriculum reform will be gradually achieved.
