Nowadays, higher vocational education enjoys more opportunities and wider space to develop, its historical mission being to train a large number of personnel with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to meet the demand of production, construction, management, services as well as those of the countryside. However, the current situations of teaching staffs of higher vocational education have been a bottleneck restricting the healthy development of higher vocational education in China. Insufficient number of teachers and the generally-low quality of the teachers make it hard to meet the needs of higher vocational education development. Ideally, higher vocational education teachers of the new millennium should be talents with profound theoretical specialist knowledge and strong hands-on skills, possessing teaching and innovating capability in the mean time. To training a large number of quality teachers for higher vocational education, the current mode of training teachers should be reformed. The thesis proposes the"2+1+1"mode of training teachers for higher vocational education.The thesis explores the historical changes in the training of teachers for higher vocational education since China adopted the opening-up policy, summarizes the achievements and the lessons, analyzes the problems and the causes of the problems in the training of teachers of higher vocational education in China, explores the necessity and theoretical basis of setting up new mode of training teachers for higher vocational education, proposes the"2+1+1"mode of teachers training, and expatiates the basic structure and major features of the mode. Finally, it also probes into the guarantee measures of the"2+1+1"mode of teachers training in terms of policy and systems.
