Higher vocational education is one part of higher education in our country. Under the condition of the revolution of Chinese educational system, and the fully market-oriented employment, it becomes harder for the students graduated from higher vocational institutes to obtain employment than before. Unfortunately, the inner quality of the higher vocational institutes can't be enhanced with the increased quantity and enlarged size. It must face great pressure and challenge never met before for the higher vocational education's existing and developing under this serious condition. Therefore, a higher vocational institute must improve its core competition, cultivate its students'professional skill and make them into the most needed employees if it wants to remain invincible in this competitive society.I, firstly, analyzed the actualities and problems of Chinese higher vocational education. At the same time, I brought forward some problems about it, such as inaccurate orientation, scarce characters in setting majors, unsatisfied teaching quality, weak teacher power, and so on. One of the measures to solve these problems is to improve the core competition of the higher vocational institutes effectively. Then, I argued the notion and the inscape of the core competition of higher vocational education. And then, I reviewed the successful experiences of some developed countries on developing vocational education, and concluded some significant revelation to the development of Chinese vocational education. At same time, I also analyzed and refined the successful experiences of Sino-Germen vocational technology institute. Basing on them, I gave out some countermeasures on improving the core competition of higher vocational institutes, such as ascertaining the target of running an institute and orienting exactly, setting majors reasonably to satisfy the social demands, speeding up the construction of qualified teachers by improving their capacities, speeding up the revolution of teaching to heighten its quality of teaching, stressing vocational guidance to increase the ratio of graduates'employment.
